MOTO - Mail Order Telephone Order

MOTO - Mail Order Telephone Order A MOTO (keyed) account is used by businesses that do not sell face to face but rather take most of their orders by phone, mail, fax or secure e-mail. Also know as card-not-present transactions because the card cannot be physically swiped, rather the customer pays for goods and/or services by providing payment details (card type, card number, expiration date) directly to the merchant.

Merchants that require a MOTO account usually process credit card payments by entering the credit card information into a terminal with a keypad, software installed on a personal computer, or a virtual terminal that allows the use of a normal web browser to process payment transactions rather than the use of a credit card reader.
